 1. Doi Inthanon National Park
This popular national park features Doi Inthanon, the highest mountion peak in Thailand (2565 metres above sea level) and a part of the great Himalayan range where nature remains intact. Found here are diverse forms of nature, from rain forests at its zenith, hard to find elsewhere in Thailand, misty valleys in winter and many other picturesque tributaries. Bird watching is also a popular activity. |
2. Doi Suthep temple
The first Lanna pagoda constructd on a mountain, Phra That Doi Suthep Pagoda contains relics of the Lord Buddha, Chiang Mai’s most venerated treasure. Considered part of Chiang Mai’s architectural heritage, this pagoda captivates every eye with its glittering gold embellishments. Go up to the temple by climbing the Naga stairway comprising 185 steps. This Naga staircase is one of the most popularphotographic backdrops in Chiangmai. From the temple, overlook the city which is even more illuminated at night. Located only 4 km. away is Phu Ping Winter Palace. The gardens of the palace grounds are open for the general public when the royal family is not residence. |

3. Bo-Sang Village
This village is renowned for its exquisite handicrafts of painted paper parasols and fans. Scores of souvenir shops line the two sides of the road leading to the village, one of the biggest shopping districts for local products. Here you can also observe a demonstration of parasol making at Bo-sang Handicraft Center. |
4. San Kamphaeng Hot Springs
This long-reputed attraction is very close to town. Many springs have continuous boiling temperature where eggs can even be cooked. Another spectacular sight is a natural fountain with a 20 meter high water jet. High in minerals known for their curative powers, many types of bathing facilities are available from mineral water bathing rooms, and swimming pools, to a mineral stream for free dipping. |

5. Doi Pui Tribal Village
Doi Pui is a mountain contiguous with Doi Sutep. If you intend to visit Doi Suthep, this makes a worthwhile stop off. The Hmong has long been settled here, and closest to the urban center compared with other hill tribes. While outside the village are numerous dried and preserved fruit shops, traditional tribal architecture and gardening still persist. Visit the Tribul Museum and test your aim with traditional tribal wooden guns. |
6. Ban Thawai Village
Ban Thawai is Chiang Mai’s biggest shopping center for handicraft products. For several generations, Thawai villagers have produced the finest pieces of woodcarving from simple bookmarks to exquisitely carved doors. |

7. Mae Rim-Samoeng route (Mae Sa Elephant Camp and Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden)
The trajectory between Mae Rim and Samoeng District is a short but scenic route that runs through bluffs and pinnacles of Doi Suthep-Pui’s northern shoulder. Two attractions not to miss on this route are Mae Sa Elephant Camp and Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden. Mae Sa Elephant Camp ia an old camp close to the city of Chiang Mai which has retained its natural surrounding. Not to miss are the elephant shows where elephants demonstrate numerous skills from bathing in Mae Sa pond, and carrying log harnesses, to drawing, playing soccer and playing musical instruments. Then, stop by Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden, the finest international botanical garden in Thailand. Complete with a vast collection of Thai and foreign plants, the garden is set up yield a virtual forest atmosphere. |
8. Huai Nam Dang National Park
Reaching Huai Nam Dang is definitely a challenge, for the route is famously steep and winding. The national park provides a full campsite perfect for watching sunrise and misty valleys, especially at Hua Nam Dang Viewpoint, Doi Kiu Lom, the most superb spot overlooking Doi Chiang Dao, the country’s third highest mountain. |

9. Chiang Mai Zoo
This open zoo at the foot of Doi Suthep provides more natural surroundings for the animals than other typical zoos. It contains both local and exotic creatures, such as penguins, seals and Pandas. Also worth a visit is Nakorn Phing Bird Center, a large domed aviary which allows close observation of birds. |
10.Shopping
Among Chiangmai’s best buys are silk, cotton, silverware, nielloware, wood carvings, ceramics and other kinds of handicrafts. The shops are mostly scattered on Mae-on road(Sankamphang), Wualai road, Nantharam road and Chang Khlan road. The goods are also available at the famous Night Bazaar located in the heart of the city. On Saturday evenings, from 4 p.m to 10 p.m., the Wualai Street is closed to traffic making it a Saturday market. Likewise, Tha Phar Walking Street runs on Sundays at Tha Phae Gate and along Ratchadamnoen Road from 4 p.m to 10 p.m. Before going out, please check with your hotel whether the markets are run or not. |
